30th Celebration: the Maushold deck explained

The anniversary set 30th Celebration brings a deck that does not win through damage but through your opponent's deck: Famieps (Maushold) discards cards until your opponent can no longer draw.

Card and set names below are given exactly as printed on the German cards, because that is where this deck list comes from.

The card: Famieps 125/128

  • Stage 1, evolves from Zwieps (Tandemaus), 80 HP
  • Gemeinsames Nagen for one energy: flip 1 coin for each Famieps you have in play. For each heads, discard the top 2 cards of your opponent's deck.
  • Klaps for one energy: 40 damage
  • Illustration: Kariya

With four Famieps in play that is four discarded cards per turn on average, and eight on four heads.

How the deck works

The main strategy is to discard as many cards from your opponent's deck as quickly as possible, until they can no longer draw a card and lose the game.

  • Wirbel-Rotom (Fan Rotom): the ability “Ruf des Ventilators” searches your deck once during your first turn for up to three Colorless Pokémon with 100 HP or less and puts them into your hand.
  • Famieps from Stürmische Funken: the attack “Familienmarsch” searches your deck for up to two Famieps and puts them straight onto your bench.
  • Dummimisel (Dudunsparce): the ability “Angsthasenabzug” draws three cards once per turn, after which Dummimisel and all attached cards are shuffled back into your deck and can be played again.
  • Erdanziehungsedelstein: raises the retreat cost of both Active Pokémon by one energy and keeps an opposing Pokémon stuck in the Active spot.
  • Pygraulon: “Leichte Bewegung” moves one energy from one of your opponent's Pokémon to another of their Pokémon.
  • Kampfkäfig: prevents damage counters being placed on all Benched Pokémon in play.
  • Neutralisierungszone: while this stadium is in play, your opponent's Pokémon ex and Mega Pokémon ex cannot deal damage with attacks.
  • Nebelschleier-Energie plus Zauberasche and Tracys Unterstützung bring knocked out Pokémon back into play.

Is the deck worth it?

This deck lives on many copies of a few cards rather than on expensive chase cards. Four Zwieps, three Famieps and four Dummisel form the base, the rest are trainer cards from current sets. If you are opening 30th Celebration anyway, the core comes together quickly.
