30th Celebration: The Espeon Deck at a Glance

The anniversary set 30th Celebration brings a deck that simply undoes your opponent's evolutions. Espeon returns the top evolution stage of every opposing Pokémon to the hand, and the damage counters stay where they are.

The card: Espeon 069/128

  • Stage 1, evolves from Eevee, 110 HP, Psychic type
  • Wundersamer Glanz for one Psychic and one Colorless Energy: "Devolve each of your opponent's evolved Pokémon by putting the highest Stage Evolution card on it into your opponent's hand."
  • Super-Psischlag for three Energy: 90 damage
  • Illustration: aspara

When a Pokémon devolves, its damage counters stay on it, but its HP drops to that of the earlier stage. The whole deck is built around that.

How the deck works

First spread damage counters across your opponent's side, then devolve with Espeon. Stage 2 becomes Stage 1, Stage 1 becomes Basic. HP drops, the counters stay, and heavily damaged Pokémon collapse under them. These cards carry the plan:

  • Froslass (Twilight Masquerade): its Ability "Frosthülle" puts 1 damage counter on each Pokémon that has an Ability during every Pokémon Checkup, on both sides, except Froslass itself.
  • Munkidori (Shrouded Fable): "Adrena-Hirn" moves up to 3 damage counters from one of your Pokémon to one of your opponent's Pokémon once per turn, as long as a Darkness Energy is attached. That is how the counters Frosthülle puts on your own Pokémon move over to your opponent.
  • Uxie (Surging Sparks): "Schmerzhafte Erinnerungen" puts 2 damage counters on each of your opponent's Pokémon.
  • Budew (Prismatic Evolutions): "Juckende Pollen" deals 10 damage, and your opponent cannot play Item cards during their next turn. A strong opener.

Protection and disruption

  • Maractus (Journey Together): if it is Knocked Out by damage from an attack while in the Active Spot, 6 damage counters go on the attacker. "Bedrängen" stops your opponent from retreating.
  • Shaymin (Destined Rivals): "Blumenschleier" protects your Benched Pokémon without a Rule Box from damage by your opponent's attacks.
  • Bloodmoon Ursaluna ex (Twilight Masquerade): its attack "Blutmond" deals 240 damage and costs one Colorless Energy less for each Prize card your opponent has already taken. The card for the endgame.
  • Unfairer Stempel and Spezielle Rote Karte shrink your opponent's hand, Nachtmine makes the attacks of all Tera Pokémon cost one Colorless Energy more.

Is the deck worth it?

Espeon and Eevee are regular cards from 30th Celebration and therefore cheap. Bloodmoon Ursaluna ex and the Trainer cards from current sets make the list more expensive. If you open 30th Celebration, you will have the core together quickly. pokelix carries the Japanese 30th Celebration Display (M6a).
