30th Celebration ex Collection: Greninja ex & Sylveon ex

Two new ex collections are launching alongside the anniversary set 30th Celebration. One puts Greninja ex in the spotlight, the other Sylveon ex. According to The Pokémon Company, both boxes are available now online and at participating retailers worldwide.

What is in each box

The contents are built the same way in both versions:

  • one holographic promo card of Greninja ex or Sylveon ex
  • one oversized card of the same card for display
  • four booster packs from the 30th Celebration set

This is the key point for collectors: the 30th Celebration booster packs are not sold on their own. They are found exclusively in selected boxes and collections releasing between September and December 2026. If you want the packs, you buy a product around them.

Greninja ex, promo card MEP 099

The promo card is a Stage 2 Pokémon with 300 HP that evolves from Frogadier. Its attack Shadow Slash costs just one Water Energy and deals 30 damage to any of your opponent's Pokémon for each damage counter on that Pokémon. At six counters that is already 180 damage. The second attack Aqua Edge costs two Water Energy and deals 160 damage. Weakness Lightning times two, retreat cost one.

In play it pairs with the ability Fatal Shuriken from Mega Greninja ex. While Mega Greninja ex is in the Active Spot, once during your turn you may discard a Water Energy from your hand and place six damage counters on any of your opponent's Pokémon. Exactly the six counters that push Shadow Slash to 180.

Sylveon ex, promo card MEP 100

Sylveon ex is a Stage 1 Pokémon with 270 HP that evolves from Eevee. Its attack Colorful Harmony deals 50 damage for each basic Energy type attached to your Pokémon. With eight different types that is up to 400 damage. Weakness Metal times two, retreat cost two.

The strategy behind it is simple: get as many different Energy types into play as possible. Professor's Energy Search, Pikachu ex and the Glass Trumpet all help with that.

Why the packs are the real reason

Four booster packs from the 30th Celebration set
Four 30th Celebration packs per box.

30th Celebration holds more than 190 holographic cards, including 33 secret rares and 30 exclusive Pikachu cards, plus iconic reprints from earlier generations. The set counts as one of the biggest highlights of the year, and because the packs are tied to boxes, every one of these collections automatically becomes a way in.

One thing is still missing for a buying decision: no official price for the ex collection has been announced yet. The value depends entirely on how the box price compares to four packs plus a promo card.

What this means for you

If you are collecting 30th Celebration, these two boxes are one of the cheaper doors into the set, because you get four packs plus an exclusive promo card instead of a large collection. If you specifically want the promo, decide early: anniversary promos are regularly the first thing to climb in price once stock runs out.
